Industries

Industries and Business Types are groupings to indicate business activities. They can be applied to companies and applicant work preferences.

Industries are a high-level grouping of companies that enables them to be related based on their primary business activities such as Education & Teaching. Business types are sub-groupings which are more specific, such as Primary Education or Secondary Education, enabling differentiation between companies in terms of products or services offered.

Industries and Business Types can be created in the itris Management Utility (IMU), please see the Data | Industries article for more information.

Industries can be used for both applicants and companies.

Having this information on a company record can very useful for the organisation of data and assist with searching. You may wish to search all companies on your database that are within the Travel Services under the Leisure & Hospitality industry. Being able to search this within itris can aid you to focus in on business types you wish to target within that industry.

On the applicant record within Work Preferences, applicants have the ability to state which sectors, industries and business types they are willing to work in. An applicant may be qualified to work in a specific sector however, their preference is to work within another type. For example, Michael could be a Marketing Manager within the Not for Profit sector and the Charity industry but may wish to work within the Private sector within the Financial industry.

Industries are searchable across all of the main records (Applicants, Companies, Contacts, Jobs and Placements).

You can assign the Industry and Business type upon creation of a new company. Once a company record is assigned with an Industry and Business Type it will then filter through to the job and placement records.

When assigning an industry or business type to a company, the industry must be selected first, from there the business types associated with the industry will be available to select from the drop down list.

Within the applicant work preferences, you can assign industries that the applicant would ideally like to work in and which industry they are prepared/not prepared to work in.
