References

Collecting references on your applicants, whether as part of your internal process or on behalf of a client, is not only a way to confirm their prior employment history, but can also be used as a business development tool.

Taking a reference often results in a new job being picked up because of the professional approach of an agency vetting applicants and the rapport built whilst doing so with line managers who manage workers with a similar skill set to those in your database. Such an approach is also a softer sell in terms of your agency, as it is indirect and the line manager is more likely to communicate with you than an unsolicited call or email to see if they have any vacancies. Additionally, if the reference being obtained is for the applicant’s current place of work, there may be the potential to backfill the job they are leaving.

itris allows you to create references from the details in the employment tab of the applicant record, where it will pull through the relevant information into the references form, or from the References tab. Even if created from the references tab you can link back to the applicant’s related employment.

You have the option in the References tab to send an email to the referee, requesting the reference. This is where you may find it useful to set up a global email template for references, see the Templates | Email Templates article for further information.

When creating and managing references you can set requested, received and reminder dates, you can have multiple reference types (see the Data | List Items article), attach a reference document or record a verbal reference.
